Healthiest Employers of Sacramento

Each year, the Healthiest Employers® awards program honors the best and brightest in workplace wellness. Over the past year and a half, it has become apparent that when it comes to employees’ overall well-being, employers have an incredible opportunity to offer benefits that fit an employee’s unique needs – regardless of where they are in their health journey.
The Healthiest Employers assessment is scored Rubric style on a 1-100 scale. The assessment is made up of six categories with yes/no, multiple choice, and short answer questions, with each question totaling .25-3 points. A Healthiest Employers Index (HEI) is assigned to each applicant to help rank among companies of similar size.

The following organizations were named to the Healthiest Employers of Sacramento for the 2021 nomination period. Congratulations to our finalists!
1st Sacramento Credit Union – Sacramento
Founded in 1935, Sacramento Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial institution that is member-owned, allowing each employee the opportunity to provide feedback on how the organization operates. The pandemic solidified their emphasis on mental health and the importance of providing support to employees.
“Sacramento Credit Union is an essential business so our employees continued working throughout the pandemic. I am proud that our managers worked individually with their team to listen to any employee health and safety concerns and address those concerns. This was an ongoing commitment. I am also proud of the mental health awareness materials and resources we provided during the pandemic as part of our wellness program. 2nd Alta California Regional Center – Sacramento
1st Philadelphia Insurance Companies – Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania (Local Office: Roseville)
Philadelphia Insurance Companies is a premier national property, casualty, and professional liability insurance carrier designing, marketing, and underwriting innovative commercial products. Even with a global pandemic, they were able to increase their participation in wellness programming by 16.64%. Their program encourages participation through incentives and community-building activities. Employees who participate in charity events like 5ks and biking events receive reimbursement for signing up and can earn financial incentives throughout the year based on participation numbers.
"As part of our pandemic plan, the majority of our employees, although previously in-office, transitioned to working from home full-time. I am most excited about our ability to quickly transition our previous in-person programs to fully virtual without watering down the message or losing our audience, which afforded us the opportunity to expand our programming content. Some of the creative virtual offerings that were added are virtual cooking demos and discussions with the Nutritionist, live and on demand seminars (resilience, stress/anxiety, and finance), fitness classes, meditation sessions, etc. All events are being offered companywide to all employees and their family members.” – Laura Boyland, Senior Vice President of Human Resources
2nd First Tech Federal Credit Union – Hillsboro, Oregon (Local Office: Rocklin)
1st U-Haul – Phoenix, Arizona (Multiple Local Offices)
U-Haul serves as the largest “do-it-yourself” moving and self-storage company, with trucks, trailers, towing devices, and storage units across North America. Their increased focus on data has allowed them to measure the impact of their programs and adjust offerings using factual information. Their communications vary depending on the employee’s location and risk factors to ensure their population receives the necessary information specific to them.
“I am excited when I see numbers indicating lower gaps in care, higher utilization of wellness programs, and lower at-risk populations within U-Haul. But it is the phone calls and emails from genuinely appreciative team members about how their lives have changed, or how a program helped them reach a goal, that gives me the most gratification. Whether a team member paid off a financial debt, lost 20 pounds, or utilized a successful counseling service, it all brings me joy to know that we are making a positive impact.
