1st Hill & Wilkinson General Contractors

Richardson
420 Employees

H&W is a full-service construction firm that provides a wide range of professional services, including design-build, preconstruction, and general contracting. The company is dedicated to delivering high-quality projects on time and within budget.

H&W promotes a culture centered on continuous learning, mentorship, and community engagement. The firm supports healthy lifestyles and work/life balance, recognizing that a positive and supportive environment contributes to both personal and professional growth.

H&W leadership identified the growing need for accessible and affordable mental health care and responded by implementing a standout benefit: all mental health visits are covered as In-Network under the company’s medical plan, regardless of the provider’s network status. This initiative addresses two major challenges—the national shortage of mental health providers and the rising number of providers opting out of traditional insurance networks.

Driven by employee feedback about difficulties in accessing timely and affordable mental health care, H&W established a reimbursement process for out-of-network mental health visits and collaborated with its third-party administrator to simplify claims. The company also worked with providers willing to file claims on behalf of employees and prioritized employee education on the process. As a result, utilization of mental health services has significantly increased, indicating that employees are taking advantage of the enhanced access to care.

The system also manages Correctional Health services for the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

Harris Health’s Livongo Diabetes and Hypertension Programs offer a significant benefit by providing free medication to participants who regularly monitor their glucose or blood pressure at least four days per month. This approach not only encourages consistent self-monitoring but also reduces cost barriers, leading to improved medication adherence. Participants in these programs achieved notably higher Proportion of Days Covered (PDC) rates—122.5% for diabetes and 86.9% for hypertension—compared to non-participants. Improved adherence has contributed to better quality metrics, reduced gaps in care, and fewer inpatient and emergency visits, resulting in healthier, more engaged employees who support a culture of well-being.

The programs have also demonstrated strong financial returns, with a pooled return on investment (ROI) of 3.1x for diabetes and 2.7x for hypertension, translating into savings of over $1.4 million and $1 million respectively. Employee feedback reinforces the program’s positive impact, with over 87% believing Harris Health System cares about their health and well-being, and 86.6% recognizing a culture of health and wellness within the organization. 3rd bp North America

Houston
15,000 Employees

bp North America is part of a global energy business with a broad presence across the world’s energy system. The company operates in Europe, North and South America, Australasia, Asia, and Africa, reflecting its extensive international reach and influence.

bp North America's Thrive wellbeing program is built around four key pillars: health, financial, emotional, and social well-being. What sets the program apart is its emphasis on the social pillar, which includes unique elements such as participation in Business Resource Groups (BRGs), blood and platelet donation, and involvement in community events like races.

Unlike many corporate wellness programs that focus primarily on physical, mental, and financial health, Thrive distinguishes itself by awarding wellbeing points for socially-driven activities. Recognizing BRG participation as part of the wellbeing model is relatively uncommon, as these are typically linked to diversity and inclusion efforts. Similarly, awarding points for blood donation and community-based race participation highlights the program’s commitment to fostering social connection and community engagement—an innovative approach not typically found in most points-based wellness models.
